Ocean Awareness Summer Camp 2018
A few years ago, my friend Ryan convinced the summer camp we were attending to dedicate a week to ocean conservation. I joined him in activities such as playing games to raise money for sharks or turtles, watching a film about ocean pollution, and mining for fossilized shark teeth. Sean Russell from Stow It Don’t Throw It came and did some ocean friendly activities with us. Using the EarthEco water challenge, he tested local water to make sure the resources we depend on every day were clean. He also helped us make monofilament recycling bins made out of recycled tennis ball cans that we could all take home! Ryan Sobel, a marine life artist, taught us how to make tiles which created a life-size turtle. It’s still at the school to this day! Whenever students see it, it inspires them to help save the ocean.
